Dental Coverage

Employers and Individuals may purchase separate dental insurance. Like health insurance, the three major types of plans are HMO, PPO and traditional.

DHMO (Dental Health Maintenance Organization) plans usually offer rich benefits but a limited number dentists. Like an HMO, you must choose a Primary Care Dentist and get referrals to any specialists. These plans often have 100% coverage for diagnostic and preventive services, and flat copayments for each service, basic or major. (For example, a simple filling copay is $10.00, while a root canal copay is $60.00.)

PPO and traditional plans are very popular group products. Common plans are the 100, 80, 50 plans, where the insured pays100% for preventive dentistry, 80% for basic services, and 50% for major services.
